Manchester United are closely watching the La Liga market as the summer transfer window approaches. Among their targets is Elche’s prominent defender, David Affengruber.
Affengruber has had a remarkable debut season in La Liga, establishing himself as a cornerstone of Elche’s defense. The 25-year-old has played 33 league matches. Despite not always being able to help Eder Sarabia’s team secure clean sheets, his individual performances have been consistently excellent.
Consequently, interest in the player has grown throughout the season. Manchester United have been tracking Affengruber since December, and now, according to Sky Sports Germany (via Diario AS), they face competition from Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Juventus, and Milan.
Affengruber Eager for a Summer Move from Elche
It is highly probable that Affengruber will depart Elche this summer. Reports suggest he is keen to advance his career. Given that his contract extends until 2027, it is unlikely that Los Franjiverdes will obstruct his transfer, especially if they face relegation.
Due to his contract situation, Elche, who were previously demanding €30 million, will likely have to accept a reduced fee. However, they could still command a premium if the Austrian defender performs well at the upcoming 2026 World Cup. He made his international debut in March and, if he maintains his strong club form, he could secure a starting position for Ralf Rangnick’s team.
Affengruber would be a significant acquisition for either Atleti or Sevilla, but it remains to be seen if either can outmaneuver Manchester United for his signature. Regardless, he is a player to keep an eye on this summer.
