Bundesliga News

David Wagner is making his return to Germany, having been out of work since his departure from Norwich City last year.

RB Leipzig has confirmed the hiring of the 53-year-old to serve as their new head of youth development.

He steps into the role previously held by Manuel Baum, who is reportedly slated to move to FC Augsburg.

RB Leipzig`s managing director for sport, Marcel Schäfer, commented on the appointment, highlighting Wagner`s significant passion for nurturing young talents and extensive coaching background both in the Bundesliga and internationally. Schäfer expressed the club`s delight in securing someone with such strong footballing expertise for this vital position. He added that they have built a solid foundation in their academy recently, and together with David, they plan to further strengthen the path to the first team in a sustainable and enduring manner.

Wagner, for his part, expressed keenness to embrace this new kind of challenge.

He stated that working with young talents is genuinely a passion of his, and his time coaching in Germany and abroad has provided him with valuable experience that he can now intentionally apply to youth development. He looks forward immensely to undertaking this role at RB Leipzig, acknowledging the club`s international recognition and respect for its work with young players, a reputation he intends to uphold.
