With Barcelona’s season winding down, the club faces significant uncertainty regarding their future number nine. Neither Ferran Torres nor Robert Lewandowski have fully convinced in recent months, leaving their return next summer in doubt.
Lewandowski, 37, is out of contract this summer. Reports suggest Barcelona is interested in extending his deal, albeit with a reduced role and salary. Consequently, the veteran forward is exploring other possibilities, with Barcelona no longer being his primary choice for the upcoming season.
Laporta Eager to Extend Lewandowski’s Contract with a Two-Year Deal
According to Florian Plettenbergh of Sky Sport DE, Barcelona President Joan Laporta is keen to offer Lewandowski a two-year contract extension. While concrete negotiations on terms have not yet begun, they are expected to commence soon. Given the strong existing relationships between Lewandowski, Laporta, and his agent Pini Zahavi, salary is not anticipated to be a point of contention.
Plettenbergh also notes interest from MLS side Chicago Fire, clubs in Saudi Arabia, and two other European teams. Notably, Sporting Director Deco is not mentioned as being involved in these discussions.
Lewandowski Receives Offers from Italy
The two other European clubs could potentially be Juventus and AC Milan. These Serie A giants have been heavily linked with Lewandowski in Italy and are reportedly willing to offer him a more prominent role than Barcelona.
This season has seen a decline in Lewandowski’s importance to Hansi Flick’s team, partly due to an injury that disrupted the first half of his campaign. While he remained a regular starter in the Champions League, he was notably absent from the decisive match against Atletico Madrid. His impact this season has been less significant than in previous years. With seven games remaining, he has recorded 17 goals and three assists in 40 appearances.
