Paul Pogba, introduced today as Monaco`s new player, appeared very smiling and discussed what he aims to bring to coach Adi Hütter`s team. He highlighted his competitive spirit: “I`m competitive. I don`t want to play to lose. But there are steps to take. I hope to give something extra to this club which has been on the podium for two years. PSG is perhaps the best team in Europe… It`s a great challenge. We came here to win.” Reflecting on overcoming recent hurdles, he added, “I think it`s all connected, and I hope the worst is over. When things aren`t going well, you can have problems everywhere. The plan was to fix everything and be well emotionally and physically. It`s important to be free like a bird.”
Asked about his initial impressions and expectations for this new chapter, Pogba shared, “These are my first days, I already want to get to know the players. I think I`m the oldest at the club, it`s strange. I want to see how they work, how they train, it`s important. I know some of them. I already spoke with some players before coming here. It`s in my nature to be like this. Eric Dier and I have experience and we can help the younger ones in their daily life, if they give us that space.”
Regarding his potential role on the pitch, he acknowledged it depends on the coach but emphasized his versatility: “Monaco`s midfield setup will depend on the coach (laughs). It`s positive for us to have these quality players who perform well in matches. With training, we`ll start to understand each other and know our roles. I can play as a 6, as an 8, on the left, as a 10, I know how to adapt. It will depend on the team, where I`ll be most useful. And the coach`s vision will also come into play.”
