Villarreal forward Thierno Barry might leave the club after spending only one season in La Liga.
The 22-year-old France U21 international joined the Yellow Submarine from Swiss club Basel before the 2024/25 season.
The 22-year-old has adapted smoothly to life in Castellon, scoring 11 league goals as Villarreal secured a UEFA Champions League qualification spot by finishing fifth in La Liga.
Last season, only Ayoze Perez scored more for Marcelino`s side in the league, netting 19 goals. As a result, transfer offers are anticipated next month.
Chelsea had previously shown interest in Barry, partly due to the strong relationship between the clubs established through the Nicolas Jackson transfer. His contract contains a €40m release clause.
Everton Reportedly Make Offer for Thierno Barry
According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, Everton, known as the Toffees, are prepared to trigger Barry`s release clause in an ambitious transfer move.
Everton manager David Moyes aims to strengthen his attack in the coming weeks, especially as injury-prone Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to depart when his contract expires at the end of June.
Iliman Ndiaye finished the 2024/25 season as Everton`s leading scorer with nine Premier League goals, and Moyes is keen to increase the team`s attacking threat.
Potential Role for Thierno Barry at Everton
With Calvert-Lewin likely leaving, Moyes seeks new options as Everton prepares for a new era at Bramley Moore Stadium.
Barry spent most of the 2024/25 season playing in a front two at Villarreal, typically alongside Ayoze Perez or Yeremy Pino.
If he joins Everton, his role would likely be adjusted, with Moyes potentially seeing him operate between Ndiaye and Jack Harrison.
While the Premier League`s appeal is significant, Barry may not be in a hurry to leave Spain`s east coast, especially given Villarreal`s qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
