Premier League Star Bruno Fernandes Snubs Mega Saudi Offer to Stay in Europe

Football News

The financial side of professional football is increasingly prominent, particularly with the exceptionally high offers now coming from clubs in Saudi Arabia. This has led to some notable players opting to move to the Middle East.

However, one high-profile player who has recently declined such an opportunity is Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese international confirmed his decision during a press conference held before Portugal`s recent Nations League fixture against Germany.

The Manchester United playmaker explained: “There was an opportunity presented to me. The club president contacted me and asked if I would consider going there. They were prepared to wait for my answer. I also discussed it with coach Amorim, who advised me against leaving. Manchester United were clear they didn`t want to sell me; they are under no financial pressure to do so. If I had strongly wanted to move, they would likely have allowed it.”

He elaborated on the decision-making process: “Al Hilal was very accommodating in their approach; they had discussions with my agent. Subsequently, I spoke with my wife, who asked what I truly wanted to do and always backs my choices. It would have been relatively simple to make the switch, especially knowing many Portuguese players who are already there. But my main goal is to compete at the absolute highest level and aim for major trophies. I believe I can still achieve that, and I am driven by a deep passion for football.”

Reports indicated that Al Hilal offered the 30-year-old a substantial three-year contract, reportedly valued at €200 million, which would have significantly increased his current earnings. Despite this highly lucrative proposal, Fernandes has opted to remain with Manchester United and continue playing in the Premier League.
