Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl, who has been linked with the managerial position at Rangers, has not held recent discussions with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, although he remains a potential candidate for them.
Rohl took charge at Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023. In his debut season, he successfully guided the Owls to avoid relegation from the Championship. He followed this up by leading them to a 12th-place finish in the recently concluded campaign.
The German coach`s impressive work at Hillsborough has attracted significant attention and interest from various clubs.
Rohl is understood to be a strong contender for the manager`s job at Rangers, who are currently seeking a permanent replacement for Philippe Clement.
Reports had previously suggested Rangers were in talks with Davide Ancelotti, son of Carlo Ancelotti, for the role, but he decided to join his father in the Brazil national team setup instead.
Rohl is also in demand in his home country, with his former club RB Leipzig showing interest. However, the Sheffield Wednesday manager is not believed to be their first choice.
Leipzig are reportedly prioritizing Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner or Como`s Cesc Fabregas, but significantly, Rohl remains on their list as an alternative option.
According to German broadcaster Sky Deutschland, there have been no recent conversations between Rohl and Leipzig. This reinforces the view that he is being considered as a fallback if their attempts to appoint Glasner or Fabregas are unsuccessful.
Rohl has a release clause included in his Sheffield Wednesday contract and has two years remaining on his current deal.
Southampton had shown interest in Rohl earlier but have since moved on, as they are reportedly close to appointing Will Still.
The Sheffield Wednesday boss also has potential suitors in the Premier League, with Crystal Palace and Fulham mentioned. It is suggested that Rohl is not in a hurry to make a decision about his future at this time.
Separately, Rangers have also been linked with a potential return for their former manager Steven Gerrard to Ibrox.
