Raúl Asencio Denies Rift with Real Madrid Manager Álvaro Arbeloa

Football

Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio has recently become a subject of discussion in the Spanish capital. For the past month, the centre-back has not been featured in matches, leading to speculation about a supposed disagreement with manager Álvaro Arbeloa.

Asencio was a regular starter for Los Blancos in March and one of their more consistent performers. However, he was dropped for their Champions League Round of 16 tie against Manchester City. He was subsequently left out of the squad for the following three games, reportedly due to a muscle injury.

Recent reports suggest that Asencio was upset with Arbeloa after being excluded from the starting lineup for the first leg against City, and that the Real Madrid manager did not react positively to his response. His absence from the squad was allegedly due to his refusal to apologize to his teammates after Antonio Rüdiger had to be brought into the lineup at the last minute.

Asencio Responds to Rift Talk

When questioned about his lack of playing time as he left training, Asencio stated, “That, you will have to ask Arbeloa.”

This comment quickly gained traction on social media. A couple of hours later, Asencio clarified his remarks on his own social media account, stating:

“I don’t understand the fuss you all make about things. The manager is the one in charge, he selects the players and takes them out. I have the utmost respect for him and all my teammates. Greetings to everyone and Hala Madrid.”

Asencio’s Future Beyond This Summer?

Cadena SER reports that Asencio’s future beyond the end of the season is uncertain. Premier League clubs have shown interest in the player. Real Madrid are reportedly looking to sign at least one central defender, though it’s not yet clear who that might be. If an opportunity arises to sell Asencio, Real Madrid might consider it a favorable move.
