Real Madrid Adds Didier Deschamps to Managerial Shortlist as Alvaro Arbeloa’s Future Remains Doubtful

Football

Real Madrid appears to be heading towards a managerial change for the upcoming season. Currently, Alvaro Arbeloa is at the helm, but with the club facing the prospect of another trophy-less campaign, the renewal of his contract seems unlikely.

The club has begun identifying potential managerial candidates for the summer. Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino are prominent names on their list. However, their availability is not guaranteed, prompting Real Madrid to explore other options.

According to RMC Sport, as reported by Marca, Didier Deschamps has recently caught the attention of Real Madrid. The 57-year-old is set to depart his role as the head coach of the French national team following this summer’s World Cup. This could signal his return to club management after a 14-year hiatus, potentially at the Bernabeu.

Deschamps is reportedly open to an offer from Real Madrid, expressing his desire to continue managing after leaving the French national team. His status as a free agent makes him an appealing prospect. Furthermore, he has existing connections with several Real Madrid players, including Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Real Madrid’s Crucial Managerial Decision

The strong possibility of Real Madrid completing two consecutive seasons without a major trophy is a significant concern for president Florentino Perez. The decision to replace Carlo Ancelotti with Xabi Alonso last summer proved unsuccessful, and Arbeloa has been equally disappointing since taking over in January.

Real Madrid requires a manager capable of commanding a dressing room with strong personalities. Deschamps would certainly fit this profile. However, his appointment carries a considerable risk, given that he has not managed a club since 2012.
