Real Madrid has a history of successfully developing and selling young talent from their Castilla squad, often retaining future options through specific sale clauses. The latest player poised to leave Valdebebas is central midfielder Cesar Palacios.
Palacios was a significant player for Alvaro Arbeloa’s Castilla team and has also earned call-ups to the senior squad. The 21-year-old has accumulated 76 minutes across six appearances for the first team, demonstrating his capabilities in midfield during his limited opportunities.
Interest from Como and Osasuna in Cesar Palacios
According to Diario AS, two clubs that have previously scouted Real Madrid’s emerging players are now interested in Palacios. Italian club Como, who have already successfully integrated former Castilla talents like Jacobo Ramon and Nico Paz into their team under Cesc Fabregas, are keen to sign Palacios this summer.
Osasuna is also in the running, having seen Victor Munoz perform well this season following his move last year. These two clubs are leading the pursuit of Palacios. Getafe and Alaves are also reportedly interested in the midfielder.
Athletic Club Withdraw from Palacios Pursuit
Athletic Club, the Basque giants, had also shown interest in Palacios. However, they have since withdrawn their pursuit. Los Leones were reportedly unwilling to agree to Real Madrid’s customary terms of a 50% sell-on fee and a buy-back clause. They were also not prepared to meet the significant offer required by Los Blancos to waive these conditions.
Palacios is expected to depart this summer to gain more experience at a higher level. At 21 years old, he likely feels ready for the next step in his career, especially with limited immediate prospects of securing a permanent first-team role at Real Madrid. He currently has two years remaining on his contract, and Real Madrid is also actively seeking to sign a new midfielder.
