Real Madrid Dressing Room Blames Fede Valverde for Aurelien Tchouameni Incident

While Real Madrid’s season typically garners attention in May, this past week has seen the club’s training ground, Valdebebas, become the center of negative media focus. Following days of internal discord being leaked, a physical altercation between Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni erupted on Thursday.

The French midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni, participated in training as usual on Friday. However, Real Madrid has initiated a disciplinary investigation into both players. Fede Valverde sustained a head injury during the altercation, sidelining him for the next two weeks. Despite reports to the contrary, Valverde has stated that he was not physically struck.

Valverde Accused of Causing the Altercation

Fede Valverde appears to have been more significantly impacted by the incident. Beyond his injury, his public statement regarding the event has drawn considerable criticism, with some sections deemed self-contradictory. According to Cadena SER, a significant number of Real Madrid players believe Valverde overstepped his boundaries with Tchouameni, persistently accusing him of leaking information to the press.

While these players do not condone Tchouameni’s actions, their disappointment is reportedly directed more towards Valverde’s behavior. The Athletic corroborates these accounts, suggesting that Valverde’s attitude has been problematic throughout the year, with his conduct described as “unworthy of a captain” by multiple sources.

Heavier Sanction Expected for Fede Valverde

The club’s disappointment seems to be greater towards the Uruguayan player. Although both are anticipated to face disciplinary measures, initial indications suggest Valverde’s sanction will be more severe. As vice-captain, Valverde carries a greater responsibility within the dressing room, and his involvement in such an incident is viewed negatively.

With captain Dani Carvajal sidelined due to injury, Valverde, after Arbeloa, was theoretically the most senior figure present at training on Thursday. The head injury sustained by Valverde is likely to prevent him from playing again this season, with only the final home game against Athletic Club potentially being an option.
