Real Madrid will block Barcelona efforts to sign 22-year-old winger

Barcelona is targeting a new left winger for the upcoming summer transfer window, prompted by uncertainties surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future. Although the Manchester United loanee has performed well since his arrival last July, the Catalan club is not inclined to make his move permanent at this juncture, leading them to explore alternative options.

One prominent name on Barcelona’s shortlist is Victor Munoz. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a remarkably successful debut season with Osasuna following his transfer from Real Madrid last summer. His recent debut for the Spanish national team, marked by a goal in his first appearance against Serbia, has particularly caught the attention of Barcelona.

The primary obstacle for Barcelona lies in Real Madrid’s involvement. Los Blancos retain a buy-back clause in their agreement with Osasuna and, crucially, possess a right of first refusal. As reported by Diario AS, Real Madrid plans to exercise this right should their rivals from El Clásico make a move to sign their former player during the summer.

Real Madrid has yet to finalize their decision regarding Munoz’s potential return. They have the option to re-sign him this summer for €8 million. Barcelona, on the other hand, would need to meet his €40 million release clause to secure his signature for the Spotify Camp Nou. However, the club from the Bernabéu is firm in its stance that this move will not be permitted.

Munoz set for a big summer

Munoz’s recent change of agent suggests a potential transfer this summer. In addition to Barcelona and Real Madrid, several Premier League and Serie A clubs are monitoring his situation and are reportedly prepared to approach Osasuna when the opportune moment arises.

Munoz could also feature in the 2026 World Cup with Spain, which would further enhance his market value. If this occurs, Real Madrid might decide to activate their option and bring him back. In the meantime, as long as Real Madrid hesitates, Barcelona will continue to closely track Munoz’s development.
