The first leg of the Serie B playoff final is underway. While off-field issues like the Brescia case and league penalties have recently impacted the standings, the focus shifted tonight to the promotion battle between Cremonese and Spezia at the Stadio Zini in Cremona.
After the initial 45 minutes, the score remains goalless between the two sides. Spezia did manage to find the back of the net around the 15-minute mark through Aurelio, who was unmarked at the far post following a save by Fulignati. However, the goal was subsequently disallowed by VAR for a handball.
The halftime score is:
Cremonese-Spezia 0-0
The decisive second leg is scheduled for June 1st at Spezia`s Stadio Picco. According to the playoff regulations, if the aggregate score is level after the full 180 minutes, extra time will not be played. Instead, the team that finished higher in the regular season standings will be promoted. In this instance, Spezia finished third, while Cremonese finished fourth, giving Spezia the advantage in case of a tie on aggregate.
