Former Serie A goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino is embarking on a new chapter in his distinguished football career, stepping into a management role at Associazione Calcio Bra. The Piedmontese club, fresh off their promotion to Serie C, announced with considerable enthusiasm the appointment of the veteran custodian as their new Technical Director.
Sorrentino, born in 1979, is a familiar name to Italian football fans, having guarded the nets for prominent clubs such as Torino, Chievo Verona, and Palermo in Serie A. His playing journey also included stints abroad with AEK Athens and Recreativo Huelva. Known for his commanding presence and acrobatic saves – truly embodying the `eyes of the tiger` spirit lauded by the club – his transition from player to executive is a natural progression for many football figures.
In his new capacity at AC Bra, Sorrentino is tasked with serving as a crucial link within the club`s structure. The official announcement describes him as the “collante” (liaison) between the club management, head coach Fabio Nisticò, and Sporting Director Ettore Menicucci. This role is pivotal in ensuring cohesion and shared vision across the technical and administrative sides of the club, particularly vital for a team navigating the challenges of a higher division.
Sorrentino brings recent experience from the Piedmont region, having served as patron for Serie D side Chieri from 2022 to 2023, a club managed by his father, Roberto Sorrentino. Alongside this, he has remained active in the football world through his goalkeeper academy and as a sports commentator on television. This diverse background equips him with a broad perspective on various facets of the game.
His immediate engagement is evident: Sorrentino was present at the team`s recent gathering and attended their first training session. This hands-on start signals his direct involvement from day one. For a player accustomed to the solitary focus of guarding the goal, this new role demands a shift towards strategic oversight and collaborative effort. It`s a different kind of challenge, perhaps requiring less diving saves, but certainly more strategic navigation and coordination to help AC Bra solidify its position in Serie C.
