Vicenza, Confente: “Just Want to Switch Off, Feeling Bitterness and Disappointment”

Football News

Vicenza goalkeeper Alessandro Confente was recently honored at the Gran Galà del Calcio, where he received the award for being the team`s best player. On the sidelines of the event, the shot-stopper shared some thoughts.

“I want to share this award with my teammates, who helped us concede very few goals throughout the season,” he stated. “There`s a lot of bitterness and disappointment after being eliminated from the playoffs. Right now, I just want to switch off.”

His words clearly reflect satisfaction with the personal recognition but are overshadowed by deep disappointment regarding the conclusion of yet another challenging season. The 1998-born goalkeeper was also between the posts last year when the Veneto-based side enjoyed a strong second half of the season and mounted an excellent playoff run, which ultimately culminated in defeat in the final against Carrarese.

This year, the `Lane` (Vicenza`s nickname) had a nearly perfect campaign in the regular season of Group A, finishing with a robust 83 points. However, this tally wasn`t sufficient to overtake a formidable Padova side managed by Andreoletti. In the promotion playoffs this time around, Vicenza`s journey ended earlier, as they reached “only” the semifinals, where Ternana, coached by Liverani, proved superior over the two legs.
