The current league leaders haven’t secured a title in over two decades, yet surprisingly few neutral observers express enthusiasm about their potential as new champions. Following Arsenal’s narrow 1-0 victory against Brighton on Wednesday, it was Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler’s critique of Arsenal’s playing style that resonated strongly. It appears that in England, almost no one outside of dedicated Arsenal supporters or those opposed to Manchester City’s dominance genuinely wishes for them to win the league.
Hürzeler pointedly asked, “If I would ask everyone in the room: ‘Did you really enjoy this football game?’ I’m sure maybe one raises his arm because he’s a big Arsenal fan but, besides that, no chance.” This sentiment highlights a curious lack of widespread support for the Gunners’ title challenge.
