Another Real Madrid Player Reportedly Misdiagnosed for Injury

Football

Eduardo Camavinga, a Real Madrid midfielder plagued by recurrent injuries for two seasons, has reportedly become the second player this season to have the incorrect leg examined for an injury, following a similar incident involving Kylian Mbappe.

Controversy erupted earlier after French media reported that Kylian Mbappe’s knee was initially misdiagnosed by Real Madrid in December. He allegedly played three more matches before the correct injury was identified, though Mbappe later publicly refuted these claims.

Camavinga’s Alleged Misdiagnosis Emerges

New reports from L’Equipe in France now point to Camavinga experiencing a similar medical blunder. Following his injury against Athletic Club on December 3rd, it’s alleged that his left knee was scanned, despite his right knee being the source of pain. Although named in the squad for the subsequent match, Camavinga remained on the bench due to continued discomfort. Despite a lack of activity, he was then sidelined for two weeks with a knee injury.

Medical Department Under Scrutiny, Staff Changes Implemented

This incident adds to a series of concerns regarding Real Madrid’s medical department, which the club itself has been reviewing due to injury management issues over the last two seasons. In January, these concerns led to the dismissal of Xabi Alonso and the re-appointment of Antonio Pintus as head of fitness. Prior to this, former club doctor Niko Mihic was also brought back in an advisory capacity.

Further indicating a lack of confidence, Mbappe sought a second opinion in Paris for his knee injury, while Jude Bellingham and Antonio Rudiger traveled to London for treatment in February and March, respectively. Although manager Alvaro Arbeloa stated these players were accompanied by club staff, these actions have fueled Spanish media criticism, suggesting Real Madrid needs to enhance its player fitness and medical protocols.
