Ansu Fati’s tenure at Barcelona, spanning 14 years, appears to be drawing to a close. After spending two of the last three seasons on loan, the talented winger is now set for a permanent departure from the club where he began his journey as a child, having joined from Sevilla.
Fati moved to AS Monaco on loan this past summer. His previous season saw limited game time under Hansi Flick, who struggled to provide him opportunities amidst strong competition from Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. The 23-year-old has had a somewhat inconsistent campaign in Ligue 1, experiencing periods in and out of the team due to injuries, accumulating only 1,199 minutes on the pitch. Despite these challenges, he has managed to score 11 goals in 28 appearances, averaging a goal every 109 minutes.
AS Monaco Intends to Secure Ansu Fati’s Permanent Transfer
According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, AS Monaco plans to exercise their €11 million buy-out option for Fati this summer. The reputable Italian transfer insider also indicates that Barcelona is set to retain a sell-on clause, estimated to be around 20%, should the transfer go through. Fati is currently under contract with Barcelona until 2028 and is among the higher earners at Camp Nou.
Further Negotiations Anticipated for Fati’s Future
However, the situation in Spain suggests a different outlook. Marca reports that Monaco intends to re-enter negotiations with Barcelona at the end of the season to potentially reduce the transfer fee. It is considered certain that Fati will not return to Barcelona, and the club is eager to finalize the deal before the end of June to positively impact their salary cap calculations.
This perspective is supported by MD journalist Gabriel Sans, who explained that their previous update indicated Monaco’s decision would hinge on the agreed-upon terms. Their stance was that either the purchase price should be lowered, or Fati’s wages should be reduced. It is possible that the outcome will involve Fati himself negotiating a deal with Barcelona.
