Alexander Sorloth, an attacking player for Atletico Madrid, has found himself on the bench more often than he might have desired for the second consecutive season at the Metropolitano. Despite this, the Norwegian forward is anticipated to be a sought-after player this summer.
Last week, reports emerged of an unexpected inquiry from Barcelona regarding Sorloth. They apparently view him as a player who could fill a similar profile to Robert Lewandowski. The specific valuation, if any, provided by Atletico Madrid to Barcelona remains unclear.
AC Milan Eager for Sorloth Signing
Sorloth was previously linked with a transfer last summer after failing to secure a regular starting position. In January, Juventus was also rumored to be considering him as a potential replacement for Dusan Vlahovic. However, current reports from GdS (as cited by Marca) indicate that AC Milan has now set their sights on the striker. Should they secure a Champions League spot, it would provide the financial backing for a move for a number nine. While Atletico is reportedly seeking €40 million, including variables, which is €2 million more than a deal previously agreed with Villarreal, they may be open to negotiations for a fee in the range of €20-25 million.
Lewandowski Out of Consideration for Milan
Previously, AC Milan had also been linked with Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, whose contract is set to expire this summer. However, GdS lists Lewandowski, alongside Serhou Guirassy and Dusan Vlahovic, as forwards that Milan has ruled out due to their high cost. This is despite Lewandowski reportedly being offered to the Italian club.
Alexander Sorloth’s Season So Far
Sorloth has experienced a mixed season, consistently delivering decent numbers when given opportunities. This season, he has scored 17 goals and provided one assist in 48 appearances, averaging a goal every 146 minutes, often coming off the bench. Nevertheless, he has missed some significant scoring chances when on the field. The general trend has been that Sorloth creates chances, but his conversion rate has fallen slightly below Atletico’s ideal expectations.
