Roony Bardghji has made a promising start to his tenure at Camp Nou, but his opportunities have been constrained. Playing in the shadow of Lamine Yamal has resulted in a scarcity of minutes in the latter half of the season, especially after the Spanish international recovered from his sports hernia issues earlier in the campaign.
Bardghji has demonstrated his versatility, capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or on the left flank. However, his strongest position is undoubtedly on the right wing. The 20-year-old Swedish talent arrived from FC Copenhagen last summer for €2.5 million. In his 23 appearances, he contributed two goals and four assists, accumulating a total of just 616 minutes on the field, which averages out to a goal contribution every 102 minutes.
Bardghji’s Imminent Departure from Barcelona This Summer
According to reports from Sport, Roony Bardghji is expected to leave Barcelona this summer. The Catalan club has been fielding inquiries about Bardghji from clubs such as Porto, Monaco, and Stuttgart since January. More recently, Juventus has also reportedly expressed interest. However, the Catalan publication suggests that any move is more likely to be a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer. This is because Barcelona aims to maintain control over his future, believing he possesses significant potential. Nevertheless, there’s a recognition that he requires more consistent playing time to foster his development.
Will Barcelona Seek a Replacement for Bardghji?
The Blaugrana certainly valued having an alternative option to Lamine Yamal earlier in the season, even if his role was limited. Hansi Flick’s ideal scenario would likely involve a forward who can comfortably operate on both the right and left wings, providing backup for Raphinha as well. The club’s decision might also hinge on the emerging talent from La Masia’s right-wing prospects, as those minutes could potentially be filled by a homegrown youngster.
Conversely, failing to secure a player capable of stepping up when called upon, particularly in the event of an injury to Lamine Yamal, presents a considerable risk. Bardghji’s performances have shown he can deliver when given the opportunity.
