Barcelona, under the guidance of sporting director Deco, is proactively pursuing their initial summer transfer window acquisition. The Catalan club aims to recruit at least two new forwards, with the first agreement potentially imminent.
It is widely known that Barcelona seeks a successor to Robert Lewandowski in the number nine role. However, their attempts to sign Julian Alvarez or Joao Pedro have been unsuccessful, as Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are unwilling to meet Barcelona’s proposed terms. Consequently, alternative options are being explored, including Anthony Gordon.
Barcelona is familiar with Gordon, having encountered him three times during the 2025-26 Champions League. He has frequently operated as a centre forward for Newcastle and is naturally a left winger, an area Deco is eager to strengthen this summer, particularly if Marcus Rashford cannot be retained.
Earlier this week, Deco met with Gordon’s representatives in England. Recent reports from the Daily Mail indicate that club-to-club negotiations are underway between Barcelona and Newcastle, with discussions centering on a fee in the region of £80 million (€92 million) for the England international.
Gordon has agreement in principle with Barcelona
Furthermore, Sport reports that Gordon has already reached a contractual agreement in principle with Barcelona. He is reportedly very keen on joining Hansi Flick’s squad, showing more interest than in Bayern Munich and Liverpool, who are also rumored to be contenders for his signature this summer.
Gordon would represent a compelling signing for Barcelona. He aligns well with Flick’s intended playing style. However, it would involve a significant financial outlay for a player who is not a natural number nine and is unlikely to displace Raphinha as the starting left winger.
