Despite the focus on significant transfer spending, Barcelona has provided a contract enhancement to one of its recent prominent signings. Following substantial investments in Dani Olmo and Joan Garcia over the last two summers, the Catalan club is now set to increase Olmo’s wages.
Olmo joined Barcelona for €55 million from RB Leipzig in 2024, after a failed attempt to sign Nico Williams. Initially registered under an emergency injury rule, Barcelona had to obtain a court order to keep him registered for the latter half of the season once that provision expired.
Dani Olmo Receives Contract Upgrade at Barcelona
According to reports from MD, Barcelona has revised the terms of Olmo’s contract. It’s understood that Olmo turned down more lucrative offers to accept a salary within Barcelona’s financial limits, easing the financial burden of his transfer. Both parties agreed that after two seasons, Barcelona would activate a clause to raise his salary, compensating for the initial concessions he made. The 28-year-old player is contracted until 2030, giving him ample time remaining on his current deal.
Dani Olmo Faces Competition for Starting Spot
Olmo’s return to his boyhood club has not been without its challenges. Minor injuries plagued his first season, and his second season saw a lack of consistent form, although his performance improved in the final two months. With the strong showings from Fermin Lopez, Olmo’s position as the number 10 has faced competition. The arrival of Anthony Gordon, who can play on the left wing, might also lead coach Hansi Flick to consider redeploying Raphinha to that flank, a tactic he has employed previously. Olmo faces a significant challenge to maintain his starting position next season, but Flick has consistently praised his abilities.
