Barcelona Told €75m Could Secure Premier League Forward Signing

Barcelona are actively seeking to recruit at least two new forwards this summer, with manager Hansi Flick aiming to bolster his squad with both a left winger and a striker. Among their targets is Anthony Gordon, who has demonstrated his versatility by playing in both attacking roles for Newcastle United this season.

Gordon has enjoyed a standout season with Newcastle, contributing 17 goals and five assists across all competitions. Notably, 10 of these goals were scored in the Champions League, where he faced Barcelona on three occasions, even finding the net in Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat during the group stage.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has reportedly initiated contact with Gordon’s representatives. While there are concerns regarding the potential high transfer fee that Newcastle might demand for the 25-year-old, it’s suggested that a deal could be achievable for a sum between €75m and €85m, including add-ons. Initial reports indicated Newcastle’s valuation at €90m.

Gordon Aligns with Barcelona’s Requirements

Barcelona are reportedly in the market for a player with a profile similar to Raphinha, but at a younger age. Gordon, who is three years younger than the Brazilian international, shares a comparable playing style. He is known for his strong work ethic off the ball and his ability to be a destructive force with it, as evidenced by his performances in this season’s Champions League.

Gordon’s capacity to also operate as a central striker is a significant advantage for Barcelona. The club may face financial constraints in pursuing a top-tier natural striker due to their ongoing financial difficulties. However, they would face considerable competition for Gordon’s signature, with Bayern Munich also expressing strong interest and aiming to conclude a deal with Newcastle swiftly. The upcoming World Cup is expected to disrupt transfer negotiations for approximately a month, intensifying the urgency for interested clubs.
