Hansi Flick to remain as Barcelona manager for another three seasons

Hansi Flick has made a significant impact since succeeding Xavi Hernandez as Barcelona manager in the summer of 2024. Over the past two years, the Catalan club has secured four titles, and is on track to win La Liga for a second consecutive season.

Despite falling short in the Champions League on two occasions, most recently against Atletico Madrid this season, Flick’s standing within Barcelona remains exceptionally high. President-elect Joan Laporta holds him in high regard and has indicated his desire to extend the German head coach’s contract.

Discussions are scheduled to take place once La Liga concludes. Ahead of these talks, Spanish outlet MD has reported that Flick has reached an agreement in principle with Barcelona to sign a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2028.

Flick has already conveyed his willingness to extend his tenure by an additional season. He is enjoying his time in the Catalan capital and is fully committed to continuing to bring success to the club.

Contract will include option of 12-month extension

The new agreement between Barcelona and Flick is expected to include an option to further extend the 61-year-old’s managerial period by another 12 months, up to 2029. This extension would be contingent on the mutual agreement of both parties, meaning there is a possibility for the German head coach to depart after two more years.

Extending Flick’s stay is considered a clear decision for Barcelona, given the success he has facilitated since his arrival in 2024. This news is likely to be well-received by the supporters, who have embraced him over the last couple of seasons. However, there will be continued pressure to finally end Barcelona’s 12-year wait for a Champions League title, a drought that was extended by their recent performance.
