Barcelona are actively seeking a new central defender, with several candidates currently under consideration by the club’s sporting department. While Alessandro Bastoni remains the primary target, the club is exploring less expensive alternatives should a deal with Inter Milan prove too costly. One such option is Natan.
This week, reports indicated that the Real Betis defender has been proposed to Barcelona as an alternative to Bastoni. The 25-year-old has made a notable impression during his two seasons in Andalusia, and 2026 might mark the moment for him to advance his career. However, this next step could potentially lead him to England rather than Catalonia.
According to The Chronicle (via ED), Newcastle United have expressed their interest in Natan, viewing him as a potential solution to their defensive challenges. A return to Serie A is also a possibility for the former Napoli defender, with Juventus also reportedly considering a move.
Barcelona and Newcastle Alerted to Natan’s Asking Price
Real Betis is firm that Natan will not be permitted to leave for a reduced fee. While it was previously suggested he could be available for as little as €30 million, the increasing number of clubs in the race means Barcelona might have to pay up to €57.5 million to secure his transfer to the Spotify Camp Nou.
If this is the price Barcelona would need to meet for Natan, it is highly unlikely to proceed. The Catalan club is currently only willing to spend up to €50 million for Bastoni. Given this stance on their top target, it’s improbable they would increase their offer for a player not yet officially on their radar.
Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to observe whether Natan departs Betis this summer. If he does, Catalonia is unlikely to be his chosen destination.
