Liverpool manager Arne Slot shared updates ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated Merseyside derby. He confirmed that Hugo Ekitike will miss the remainder of the season and the upcoming World Cup due to an Achilles tendon injury. The French player has not yet undergone surgery.
Slot expressed his disappointment, stating, “It’s devastating for him to join a new club and make such an immediate impact. Playing against his former club in the Champions League quarter-final, with so much to look forward to this summer. My primary concern is for him being sidelined for such an extended period, missing out on many special moments. However, this is not the first and will not be the last player to experience something like this at the beginning of their career, and there are numerous examples of players returning even stronger.”
