Saudi Arabia Concerned by Barcelona’s Interest in Prolific Striker

Football

Barcelona is reportedly seeking a new striker this summer, aiming to find a successor for Robert Lewandowski, whose contract is nearing its end at Spotify Camp Nou. Several potential targets have emerged in recent months, with Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy being one name linked to the Catalan giants.

Reports earlier this season suggested Barcelona could acquire Guirassy for €50 million, a price considered reasonable for a player who has netted 56 goals in 89 appearances for Dortmund since his 2024 transfer from Stuttgart. While not their top priority for the attacking role, Guirassy’s potential availability has reportedly caused concern among Saudi Arabian clubs who are also pursuing him.

Al-Ittihad, a Saudi Pro League club, is reportedly keen on Guirassy, but club officials are said to be worried by Barcelona’s potential entry into negotiations. Although the 30-year-old is open to a summer move to Saudi Arabia, he would likely prioritize an offer from the La Liga leaders.

Barcelona’s Primary Target: Julian Alvarez

Encouragingly for Al-Ittihad, Julian Alvarez remains Barcelona’s primary striker target for the upcoming summer window. Should Barcelona successfully adhere to La Liga’s 1:1 financial fair play rule before the season concludes, a substantial move for the Atlético Madrid forward, expected to cost over €100 million, is anticipated.

However, Barcelona’s ability to make a major investment in a new striker is uncertain, given their additional plans to reinforce the central defense and left-wing positions. They might opt for a more budget-friendly alternative, which would still benefit Al-Ittihad, as Guirassy would likely be considered too expensive for such a scenario.

While Barcelona’s final transfer decisions for the summer remain to be seen, Guirassy becoming a concrete top target would come as a surprise.
