Unsettled Paris Saint-Germain Star Emerges as Market Opportunity for Barcelona

Football

Barcelona aims to make at least two significant signings for Hansi Flick’s squad this summer, ideally bringing in Alessandro Bastoni and Julian Alvarez. They are also actively seeking a replacement for Marcus Rashford, whose permanent stay at the Spotify Camp Nou appears unlikely.

While Barcelona would welcome Rashford’s return, they are only open to another loan deal, which Manchester United has already rejected. Consequently, his departure after the summer seems probable, and alternative options are being explored.

The club is prioritizing budget-friendly targets like Ez Abde, Jan Virgili, and Victor Munoz. However, the emergence of Bradley Barcola as a potential transfer could shift priorities. According to Sport, the Paris Saint-Germain winger could become a key target for Barcelona if he becomes available on the market this summer.

Liverpool are considered strong contenders to sign Barcola, whose contract situation at PSG has raised questions about his future with the reigning European champions. If Barcelona can free up the necessary salary cap through anticipated departures of Robert Lewandowski, Andreas Christensen, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, they could become a viable option for the PSG player, who is highly admired by sporting director Deco.

Barcelona Faces Challenges with Barcola’s Agent

While Barcola is well-regarded within Barcelona’s offices, the same cannot be said for his agent, Moussa Sissoko. Sissoko was reportedly instrumental in orchestrating Ousmane Dembele’s exit from the Spotify Camp Nou in 2023. Negotiating with him presents a significant hurdle for Deco, but it would be essential if a deal is to be struck.

Estimates suggest that €80 million could be sufficient to acquire Barcola this summer. It remains to be seen whether Barcelona will have the financial resources available for such a move after securing their primary objectives of signing a new center-back and striker.
