Hansi Flick Excludes Two Barcelona Players from Valencia Match Squad

Football

Barcelona is set to conclude another successful season with a match against Valencia at Mestalla this Saturday. Having already secured the La Liga title, Hansi Flick’s squad selection for the trip reflects that the team will be playing for pride rather than points.

With several Barcelona players preparing for the upcoming World Cup, two individuals may already be focusing on the North American tournament. Hansi Flick has decided to omit Jules Kounde and Raphinha from the squad traveling to face Valencia on Saturday, according to MD.

Kounde’s absence is not unexpected, as he missed Friday’s training session. Flick confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the French international is being managed carefully in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which begins in a few weeks. Raphinha, who has experienced an injury-plagued season, is also being rested to avoid any risks before his participation with Brazil in the World Cup.

Flick has opted not to call up any replacements for the absent duo. This is less of a concern for Kounde, as Eric Garcia and Xavi Espart are considered capable alternatives in defense. However, Raphinha’s omission leaves only four forwards available for the trip to Mestalla: Roony Bardghji, Marcus Rashford, Ferran Torres, and Robert Lewandowski, who is expected to play his final match for Barcelona before his contract expires.

Barcelona’s Squad Decisions Appear Sensible

Flick has consistently prioritized player welfare when necessary. Therefore, it is not surprising that he has chosen to rest two key players who carry injury risks ahead of the World Cup. While the match against Valencia holds little consequence for the Catalans, they will still aim to finish the season on a positive note.
