Spain Manager Luis de la Fuente Provides Update on Lamine Yamal’s Injury Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal is confirmed to be out for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury sustained in the recent 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo. While this sidelines him for approximately five weeks, there is optimism that he will recover in time to participate in the 2026 World Cup. This timeline allows for a period of recovery and regaining match fitness before the tournament commences in mid-June.

Although it’s not ideal for Yamal to miss the conclusion of the club season, which would have provided momentum, the primary focus for the Spanish national team, La Roja, is ensuring the 18-year-old is fully fit for their opening World Cup fixture against Cape Verde.

During a press conference, Spain’s head coach, Luis de la Fuente, addressed questions regarding Lamine Yamal’s condition. He also spoke about Nico Williams, another key winger for the national team who has recently faced injury setbacks.

“They are two crucial players for us, but so are others. For us, the day-to-day is about the collective. We seek the same commitment. We hope to recall the Spain of Lamine and Nico, but the most important aspect is that this is a family, and we value the group’s success. Nico is already regaining his form, and I am certain Lamine will too, God willing. The utmost importance is for everyone to arrive healthy.”

De la Fuente Confirms 26-Man Squad is Nearly Finalized

Furthermore, de la Fuente indicated that the 26-player squad selected for the summer tournament in North America is nearing completion.

“The best news is that the group is consolidated, almost complete. It’s a well-functioning group. I hope that in the coming weeks, there will be no injury setbacks. I hope there are no medium or long-term injuries. We have a squad already formed, and the last three or four selections can fluctuate due to injury concerns. There is still time, and I hope that those who are injured manage to recover.”
