Getafe, a surprising standout in the 2025-26 La Liga season, is bracing for significant changes this summer. Head coach Jose Bordalas is reportedly moving on, and he will be joined by one of his key midfielders in departing the club.
With Christantus Uche returning to Getafe after Crystal Palace opted not to sign the Nigerian forward permanently, Los Azulones face the challenge of recouping lost funds. Player sales are now considered inevitable, suggesting a substantial overhaul of the first-team squad before next season.
One prominent player expected to leave Getafe is Mauro Arambarri. The 30-year-old midfielder, who has contributed six goals and two assists this season, has reportedly reached an agreement with Argentine powerhouse River Plate, according to Diario AS.
Getafe Seek Transfer Fee for Arambarri’s Departure
Arambarri has been a consistent performer for Getafe since his arrival from Uruguayan club Boston River in 2017, making 263 appearances. After a successful tenure in Madrid, he is now seeking a new challenge in South America.
However, the transfer is not yet finalized. Getafe has indicated that a transfer fee will be required for Arambarri’s release, as he is still under contract for another two years. River Plate officials are expected to visit the Spanish capital next week to negotiate a deal with Los Azulones. The negotiations could be complicated by the fact that Getafe only owns 50% of Arambarri’s playing rights. Boston River holds 30%, and the player himself possesses the remaining 20%. This shared ownership structure may lead Getafe to demand a higher transfer fee.
