Despite a disappointing Champions League exit, Barcelona has had a strong season, successfully defending their La Liga and Spanish Super Cup titles. This success has set a positive tone for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
Joan Laporta, who is about to begin his fourth term as Barcelona president in July, expressed his satisfaction with the past season. Speaking to the media, he highlighted the team’s unity and the strong performance of the squad, noting that they are on a path to building a lasting legacy.
“These are wonderful moments to reflect on the season,” Laporta stated. “Two league titles in a row, a great group with a long future ahead. There’s a strong sense of unity, and the team is very well-balanced. Deco is doing an excellent job, and Flick is very enthusiastic about what’s to come. However, next season will be more challenging, with an increased level of demand. The players understand they are forging their own legend.”
Laporta Expresses Gratitude to Lewandowski
Laporta also took the opportunity to thank Robert Lewandowski, who recently announced his departure from Barcelona at the end of his contract next month. Laporta acknowledged Lewandowski’s significant contribution to the club.
“Lewandowski is already part of the Barça crest. We will always be grateful to him. He brought us sporting credibility and also helped us on the economic front during a very challenging period. He contributed greatly to the team, and we will always be thankful.”
Striker Search Discussion
When questioned about the search for a new striker to replace Lewandowski, Laporta indicated that this is a key priority for Barcelona in the upcoming transfer window.
“We need to discuss Julián Álvarez with Deco. We will be able to sign players to enhance our competitiveness as we see fit.”
