Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has finally addressed the incident involving Fede Valverde at the Valdebebas training ground. The Uruguayan player reportedly required stitches to his head following a confrontation with Tchouameni, leading to a €500,000 fine for both players due to their misconduct.
Valverde had previously alluded to the event, describing it as a learning experience for personal growth and maturity, while initially refuting the claim that Tchouameni had struck him.
Tchouameni Clarifies the Incident
Tchouameni has now explicitly stated that he did not punch Valverde during the training session.
“Things did happen, and the media certainly amplified them. It was blown out of proportion because it became public knowledge, and when you play for Real Madrid, that generates a significant reaction. Much of what was reported in the press was inaccurate. I read that there was a fight and that I had punched him, which was not the case. I won’t go into further detail,” Tchouameni was quoted as saying by Diario AS.
He added, “The most crucial aspect is that the club was aware of what transpired. Many events occur within the locker room that never reach the press. Life moves on. Fede and I share a common objective: to win titles with Real Madrid. There are no underlying issues. And if I face him in the World Cup, we will both be focused on winning with our respective national teams. On a personal level, there are no problems with Valverde at present.”
Real Madrid’s Stance on the Altercation
Despite the substantial fines imposed, Real Madrid appeared more concerned about the breach of confidentiality rather than the altercation itself. Former manager Alvaro Arbeloa emphasized that the primary issue was the leak to the press, stating, “What truly hurts is that somebody made the story public.” Club President Florentino Perez echoed this sentiment, indicating that the individual responsible for the leak would face dismissal and remarking that “players fight every year,” referring to past incidents as potentially worse than the recent event.
