Even though Real Madrid did not secure any major trophies for the second consecutive season, several of their players were recognized with awards at the conclusion of the Champions League season. The team’s Champions League journey concluded at the quarter-final stage after an aggregate defeat of 6-4.
Paris Saint-Germain were crowned European champions for the second year in a row. Kylian Mbappe secured the top scorer award with 15 goals, a total that was never seriously threatened by other players like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (10 goals) and Ousmane Dembele (8 goals). This marks Mbappe’s second top scorer award in the competition, having previously shared it with Harry Kane in 2024.
Arda Guler named Revelation of the Season
During Real Madrid’s exit from the tournament, Arda Guler was a standout performer, keeping the team’s hopes alive. He scored a long-range goal after a mistake by Manuel Neuer and later netted a superb free-kick in Munich. Guler also played a crucial role in Real Madrid’s Round of 16 victory over Manchester City. Recognizing his impact, UEFA selected him as the Revelation of the Season, an award that replaced the Young Player of the Tournament and is given to a player under 21 to acknowledge a breakout season.
Fede Valverde wins Goal of the Tournament
Midfielder Fede Valverde earned the Goal of the Tournament award for his spectacular third goal against Manchester City, which completed his hat-trick against the Premier League side. This moment was a rare highlight for Real Madrid and arguably their best performance of the season.
Marcos Llorente named in Team of the Tournament
Marcos Llorente, the right-back for Atletico Madrid, was the only La Liga player included in the Team of the Tournament, recognized for his relentless performances for Los Colchoneros. He notably played a key role in Ademola Lookman’s winning goal against Barcelona in the quarter-finals. The only other Spanish player to be named in the team was Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.
