Barcelona has responded to Atletico Madrid’s public taunts regarding their pursuit of star striker Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid had publicly claimed that they received no offer for Alvarez, a statement that Barcelona is now disputing.
Earlier on Friday, numerous outlets reported that Barcelona had submitted a €100 million opening bid for Alvarez to Atletico Madrid. However, later that same day, Atletico Madrid took to Twitter to mock the story, deny any offer was made by Barcelona, and emphasize that Alvarez is not for sale, pointing to his €500 million release clause.
Barcelona claim €100m Julian Alvarez offer was sent
According to reports from MD, Barcelona has confirmed to them that a €100 million offer for Alvarez was indeed sent on Friday. Club sources at Barcelona, described as ‘worthy of maximum credibility,’ have assured that the offer was emailed to Atletico Madrid’s Sporting Director, Mateu Alemany.
Barcelona reportedly wishes to avoid a public dispute with Atletico Madrid, fearing further retaliatory statements. While Atletico’s social media campaign was not well-received at Camp Nou, Barcelona’s intention is to continue their pursuit of Alvarez in a professional and discreet manner, without causing further distraction.
Can Barcelona sign Julian Alvarez?
Given Atletico Madrid’s firm public stance, it would be highly unexpected if they were willing to negotiate with Barcelona for Alvarez. The series of public statements suggests a strong conviction that Alvarez will not be joining Barcelona. While Barcelona appears to have identified Alvarez as their primary striker target, they likely have a maximum price they are willing to pay before exploring alternative options.
